The paternal grandparents of Melecio Terrazas were Manuel Terrazas and Yipolita Armendaris. Their dates and places of birth are not known. Manuel's parents are Miguel Terrazas and Guadalupe Anchondo. Yipolita's parents were Remigo Armendariz (born 1772 in Spain) and Juana Ronquillo. Manuel and Yipolita were married on June 10, 1822 in the town of Santa Cruz de Rosales in Chihuahua. The Battle of Santa Cruz de Rosales occurred on March 16, 1848 during the Mexican American War. Some members of the Terrazas family lived in Santa Cruz de Rosales in 1848 during the battle. Records show that Meliton, the son of Manuel and Yipolita, was born there in 1826 and still lived there in the 1860s. Manuel and Yipolita had four children.

Barbara de Jesus was born on December 4, 1829. The birth date
