Tracing our Roots Back to 1709 Many thanks to Renee Sandoval for passing along this information on Steil family history. She received this detailed information on ancestors of John Peter Steil (who brought the Steil family from Neuerburg, Germany to Detroit, Michigan) from her friend Werner Steil in Eifel, Germany. Thanks for Renee and Werner, I have added several more people to the Steil family tree. Before receiving this information, my research ended with Karl (aka Carolus) Steil born in Neuerburg in 1845. Karl was the grandfather of John Peter Steil. Now, with this information, we can trace our roots back one more generation to the birth of Peter Steil about 1709.
