Katherine Steil was born in Neuerburg, Germany on August 5, 1867.   At her baptism, her Godparents were listed as Petri Ruhl and Catherina Hahn..

She immigrated to Detroit with her parents and several siblings in 1884.  The 1920 census shows Katherine living with her brother John Nicholas Steil at 874 Mt. Elliott. 

Katherine died in Traverse City, Michigan on April 8, 1958.  She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City.
