Mary Paterson was born on April 18, 1850, in the town of Applegarth in the county of Dumfriesshire in Scotland.  She is listed in the 1861 and 1871 census record and shown to be living with her parents.

Mary married James Douglas.

A newspaper story about the 50th wedding anniversary party held by her parents in Chatham, Ontario, Canada, lists her and her husband as guests.  The guest list showed that J. Douglas resided in Chatham.  Another guest was "Miss Douglas" who resided in Detroit.  Perhaps she was the daughter of James and Mary.

The 1901 census shows Mary, then a widow, living with her parents.

No other information has been discovered about Mary or her family.
