Jane Paterson was born on July 18, 1848, in the town of Lochmaben in the county of Dumfriesshire in Scotland. 

Jane married Aikten Brown.  He was born in Scotland.  They immigrated to America around 1870 and eventually settled in Detroit, Michigan.  They had three children: Margaret (1875), Marie (1874), and J. Sterling (1880).

The 1910 census showed them living on East Grand Boulevard.  Aikten was an engineer.  Margaret and Marie were teachers.  J. Sterling was an office clerk.  The 1920 census showed that Marie was the principal of a school and Margaret was a teacher.  Both were in the 40s and single.  Aikten still worked as a mechanical engineer.

J. Sterling registered for the draft in 1917.  In 1921, J. Sterling Brown, along with his wife, applied for a passport to travel to Cuba for a vacation.  The application said that he was a sailor. 

They applied for passport again in 1924 and the photo is taken from that application.  No other information has been discovered about Jane or her family.
