Ruth Coleman was the second child born to Arthur Roy Coleman.  The first child was Dodd.

Ruth and Dodd were children of the marriage of Roy and Florence Curtis Knapp.

Florence was the second wife of Roy.  There were no children of the first marriage.

Ruth was born in 1913.  Florence died shortly thereafter.

Apparently it was too much for Roy to handle both children as a single father.

So Dodd went to live with Roy's sister Addie and Ruth went to live with his sister Jennie.

Jennie and her husband Edgar Freer adopted Ruth.

At some point in time, Ruth married a man from Spain whose last name was De Cortez.

But she continued to live with her adoptive mother Jennie after her adoptive father died.

They lived in a ranch house on a small horse farm in Rochester, Michigan.

From time to time in the 1950s and 1960s, Ruth would be visited by her brother Dodd.

Her half-brother Murray also stopped by occasionally to visit her as he was going to or from Lake Orion.

Ruth moved at some point in time to North Carolina since that is where she died in 2000.

1920 census record.
