Jennie Coleman was the seventh of eight children born to Calvert Coleman and Sarah Westfall. She married Edgar Freer in 1894. They could not have children of their own so they decided to adopt a child. When her brother Claud died at a young age, she wanted to adopt two of his children, but Claud's wife was not amenable. Then when the wife of her younger Roy died, she asked to adopt his child Ruth who was then about one year old. Roy agreed, so Jennie and Edgar finally had a child. Edgar died in 1933. Jennie died in 1957. Ruth
died in 2000. |
