Leslie Max Coleman was born on August 17, 1922 in Milan, Michigan.  His parents were Samuel Jay Coleman and Jane Caroline Wood.  His paternal grandparents were Sarah Westfall and Calvert Coleman. 

Leslie married Hilda Schneider in 1942 and they had two children: Samuel and Sandra.  He married Marilyn Heeley in 1954 and they had two children: Nancy and Ann.
