Betty Lorraine Coleman was born on August 8, 1918, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada.  She was the second oldest of three children born to Margaret Paterson and Arthur Roy Coleman.  Her paternal grandparents were Calvert Coleman and Sarah Westfall.  Her maternal grandparents were John Paterson and Fanny Hope.

Betty married Casper Basler and they had four children: Charles, John, Roger, and Connie.  Casper died on June 25, 1991.  Roger died on March 8, 1993.
